Obituary
Clive Mortimer Lindo was the first son of Victor Ralph Lindo and Muriel May nee Russell, and one of twelve siblings. He was born March 19, 1945, in Clarendon, Jamaica, in the small community of May Pen.
In his youth, one of Clive’s fondest memories was hiding in the pipes at Clarendon College to avoid attending church with his friends, Lemuel Brady and Russell Smith, then leaving to play football. Of course, it is the greatest irony that Clive would become a pastor, a man called by God, a man many knew as a servant of God.
As a young man, Clive was quite industrious. His proudest career achievements include earning numerous degrees, starting Master All Printing, founding the National Development Foundation of J.A. Bank, and representing the island of Jamaica for small businesses. But his greatest role came in his twenties, when God called him to serve. He would often testify that he went to a party the night before a sinner, but by the morning, he was a changed man, taught by God. Clive’s hobbies included reading and traveling.
As a minister, Pastor Lindo had the opportunity to travel to England and other countries expounding on the word. Pastor also enjoyed singing and dancing. We can fondly remember that powerful voice singing, sometimes off-key, and always off-tempo, “This is my Father’s World,” and the chorus that never ends, “Daniel saw the stone.”
On December 24, 1984, Clive migrated his family to Brooklyn, New York. During his time in New York, and even when he moved to Port Charlotte, FL, Clive attempted many ventures, experienced many highs and lows, but through it all, his faith in God was an anchor, grounding him, correcting him, shaping him, mending him.
When you think of Pastor, you remember that strong voice, those large hands, and that right foot stomp. He would often say that he was born with a microphone in his stomach. We remember quotes like, “A drop of ink will make you think,” “Where is God?—Here!” “Think of the hereafter. Whatever you do here affects what happens after.” And who forget the phone call with, “There are 168 hours in a week and God only asks you for 11.” Many recite his messages and teachings for decades, for a lifetime. But most will say that he was the person you called when you were in need, when you were in trouble, when you needed a helping hand. No matter the hour, no matter the distance, no matter the task, Pastor Lindo was there.
And he was there praying for his loved ones, until he took his last breath, early Sabbath morning, May 10, 2025. Clive is survived by his spouse, Pauline Elaine, and nine remaining siblings. He will be sorely missed by his close knit church family and will be an everlasting blessing to his legacy: Karen, Michelle, Mark, Zara, Ronald, Christine and Sobi; His daughters-in-law, Wendy, Jamie; his sons-in-law, Sean, Guillermo, and John; his grandchildren, Mark, Naomi, Matthew, Eric, Jordan, Seara, Angelicia, Jason, ZoeyAnna, Shazear, Genesis, Nehemiah, Cali, Micah, David, Kara, Hannah, Gabriel, Julia, Daniel, Sarah, Jacob, Natalee, Izabella and Malachi; along with his great-grandchildren, Samara, Elijah, Nolan and Nova Jade.
Even as we grieve, his final statement that he wanted to share with us is, “I’m going to meet my King.” Rest well, Clive, Busha, Morty, Sir Lin, Bro Lin, Bishop, Pastor, Uncle, Daddy, Pop, Papa, Grampa, and Gramps. No matter what we called you, we know when your name is called up yonder, you’ll be there.
